How to Learn Hypnosis?

Some people love to learn hypnosis. Why? Each one has their own varied reasons as to why they want to learn it. However, there are also some individuals who are a bit hesitant about hypnosis – either having it, or learning it. When one is to learn hypnosis, it is as though they are given the power to control or manipulate those who have been hypnotized. Well, blame it on the media – movies, comic books, stories, etc…

Truth be told, a hypnotist cannot let a person do something that they do not want to. It is only in movies that the things you fear about hypnosis occur. What does it take to learn hypnosis, then? Well, first you have to know the basics, which include three things: suggestion, concentration, and imagination.

Generally, when being in a hypnotic state, the person is brought to its unconscious mind, and it is at this state where individuals have minds like children – playful and imaginative. So being an imaginative individual would help the process go more smoothly and easier. There are many methods that hypnotherapists utilize in hypnotizing, but there three prerequisites that make hypnosis successful. First, the person must want or has a desire to be hypnotized. Second, the person must believe that he or she can be hypnotized. Lastly, the person should be comfortable and in a relaxed state.

Hypnosis is not possible if the person is feeling tensed, pressured, or under stress. The mind and body alike must be in a relaxed state – thus the body can go from the conscious mind to the unconscious mind. So basically, whether it’s you or the hypnotherapist performing the hypnosis on you, it still lies with you. If you don’t want to be hypnotized, they can’t do anything about it.

Just as Igor Ledochowski, one of the pioneers of the techniques developed in hypnotherapy said, “All hypnosis is self hypnosis, and the power is in the mind of the person being hypnotized.”

So when learning hypnosis, you can begin by practicing self hypnosis – the best person to have a dry run is yourself. Here’s what you can do:

1. Relax and Let Yourself Go

Stop worrying about your chores or today’s tasks. Just focus on one thing: what you want to drop into your “suggestion box”.

2. Stop Thinking

Breathe easy and relax – this goes for both your body and your mind. Thinking about other things defeats the purpose of hypnotizing yourself. As you breathe, let peace surround you. Then count in your mind from 1 to 20, with each count you feel yourself going deeper into the trance.

3. Drop Notes into Your Suggestion Box

Now give your subconscious mind (which is the suggestion box) your thought (the note you decided on step 1). For example, “cigarettes taste like burnt plastic” for someone who wants to quit smoking. You have to believe this – you have the power.

4. Slowly Get Back to Reality

Now if you feel that your suggestions have been all dropped into your subconscious, start counting in your mind, backwards, which is 20 to 1. Slowly get out of your trance refreshed and calm.

Learning hypnosis can help you get over difficult problems, breaking bad habits, and unhinging those hindrances you have in life. Just remember, to learn hypnosis, the power is with you.
