Drug Rehabilitation, Addiction Treatment and Transformational Counseling Part III- By Harry Henshaw, Ed. D., LMHC

(PRWEB) September 29, 2004

The first goal of Transformational Counseling is to assist an individual in becoming present to his or her self-limiting belief, of bringing it into ones awareness. It is this distinction or awareness of ones self-limiting belief that is crucial to his or her recovery and transformation. Without such awareness ones future will be as it has been, will be what can be referred to as the Â?probable almost certain futureÂ?. Without such awareness, ones future will merely be the past and even with the constant attempt on the individualÂ?s part to fix the self-limiting belief, his or her life will merely be to continue with its fulfillment and actualization in their experiences and life. Awareness of ones self limiting belief can be gotten by the person experiencing its genesis or the originating event and with it the belief that the person invented or created about themselves at that time. An individual can also become present to the self-limiting belief by monitoring his or her spoken word. The self-limiting belief exists in our language, in the words we say or speak. Mirror work will also facilitate this type of awareness as ones self-limiting belief exists inside the feelings that one will become present as the individual observes his or her image. Regression can also be utilized to assist one in getting the genesis of his or her self-limiting belief.

Once one becomes present to his or her self-limiting belief, the opportunity then exists, possibly for the first time in the personÂ?s life, to invent a possibility for his or her life, to begin to reinvent his or her life anew. An individualÂ?s possibility is how that person will be in the present, free of the constraints or barriers of the past, a creation from nothing. Within Transformational Counseling, an individualÂ?s possibility is a new or different way of thinking about himself or herself, of who they are, of who they will be in life, to themselves and others. Like the individualÂ?s self-limiting belief, a personÂ?s possibility is a personal affirmation or declaration. Like a personÂ?s self limiting belief, an individualÂ?s possibility also exists in language, and once generated by the individual, will begin to create or invent his or her experiences and sense of reality through the power of his or her thoughts and word. Unlike a personÂ?s self limiting belief, an individualÂ?s possibility will allow him or her to create a live that they truly love and be able to live it powerfully. For the recovering client this new life will be one that is free from the use and dependency upon alcohol and drugs.

The third component of Transformational Counseling has to do with the individual learning what Landmark Education refers to as the process of enrollment. Given that a person will either live life as his or her possibility or their self-limiting belief, there will be a tendency for a person to go back to or stay in his or her self-limiting belief especially as he or she leaves formal treatment and begins to live a life of recovery. This is what is very familiar to us, that is, being our self-limiting belief in our daily life. Learning the process of enrollment will assist the individual in being able to get out of his or her self-limiting belief and back into their possibility when he or she begins to live life on lifeÂ?s terms. When we have a breakdown, we have gone back into being our self-limiting belief and as we do so will truly experience a loss of power, freedom and full expression that is from the past. It is in our breakdowns that we are being inauthentic, that the self-limiting belief becomes hidden again. The process of enrollment allows the person to become authentic about how he or she has been being inauthentic, to again become present to his or her self-limiting belief, and in the process to continue generating his or her possibility or invent a new one for themselves and their life. Enrollment is the key to having a successful life of recovery and transformation.

The implementation or practice of Transformational Counseling with a client takes place inside a conversation about integrity. Integrity is simply planning your work and working your plan. Clients are encouraged to develop a written plan, a plan for their daily life, a plan for their recovery. A written plan allows the client to take on creating or reinventing themselves and their life in a new way that will support their recovery and wellness. Implementing ones plan also allows them to confront that which has always stopped them in the past. As clients begin the process of fulfilling on their plan, of working it, of living the life that they desire, they will have a tendency to get stopped, to have a breakdown and as they do so will develop an inauthenticity, living life as they once did, from the backdrop of the self-limiting belief. It is in working with a client and his or her plan through the enrollment process that he or she has the opportunity to learn how to get out of their self-limiting belief and back into their possibility and truly transform their life and as a result to continue their recovery. For the client enrollment is the practice of continuing to experience a true sense of power, freedom and full self-expression. It is through staying in and working with ones integrity that a client will have the opportunity to stay committed to living a life of recovery, a life that they love and to live it powerfully.

The conversations that take place with my clients at the Holistic Addiction Treatment Program are conducted primarily within the language used through my personal training and development with Landmark Education. These conversations are done so by design. While it is important for a client in recovery to begin to act and behave differently, it is crucial to their recovery that they begin to think differently too. The language used in Landmark Education is unfamiliar and tends to create a space or clearing, at least initially, of confusion. This confusion acts as a pattern disruption for the client, causing him or her to start to seriously question what is being said, the meaning of the conversation. It is through this confusion and questioning by the client that they will have the opportunity to become present to their very thought process, to that which has been the true cause in the matter for them, to that which has been creating their experiences and their sense of reality, especially as it applies to how they have been thinking about themselves, the basis of how they have been being and way of life.

As the client begins to live a life of recovery and transformation it is also important that the counselor be very present to the clientÂ?s tendency to acknowledge or thank them for their assistance. As a counselor I let the client know that I can not fix or help them, that they must do this work themselves if they are to live a life of recovery, a life that they love and live it powerfully, that I only create a space or clearing for their work. In my work with clients I make a stand for the client to assume total and complete responsibility with true empowerment as the goal. To step over the client acknowledging the counselor is essentially the same as encouraging a client to use a blame pattern on someone. As with blaming, thanking another for this type of work does not allow the client to truly get it that he or she is the real cause in the matter and in both instances the client will not experience his or her true sense of power, freedom and full self expression. The client is truly responsible for being in recovery and transforming their life and it is vital to the process that they get this completely.

Transformational Counseling is an extremely powerful technique for assisting others in making a true difference in their life. For the client who is suffering from alcohol and drug dependency it is a gradual awakening to that which has truly been the cause in the matter, to that which has created and shaped their thoughts, feelings, behavior, experiences and sense of reality, to that which has been the motivating factor of their alcohol and drug use and furthermore, that there can be new and different possibilities for their life. To assist a client in being able to stand in their possibility, of being the possibility of Â?acceptance, freedom and creativityÂ?, as opposed to their self-limiting belief, of being Â?not enoughÂ?, will allow that individual to live a life that they love and live it powerfully. When used in conjunction with other alternatively oriented techniques, such as mirror work, positive affirmations, therapeutic relaxation music, self-hypnosis and NLP patterns, modalities that are utilized at the Holistic Addiction Treatment Program, a space is created for a client to begin to transform his or her life forever.

In addition to learning the fundamental distinctions and process of Transformational Counseling, it also is important for the counselor to have an experiential understanding of this technology. To truly make a stand for a client and be able to make a difference for another will necessitate that the counselor have gotten his or her self-limiting belief, have invented new possibilities for himself or herself and also to have learned the process of enrollment. Being able to assist another in the process of transformation can only is achieved when the counselor is in his or her own personal transformation. For me this journey started when I enrolled in the Landmark Forum. It was through experiencing the Forum and the curriculum that followed that the process of transformation began for me as a counselor and more importantly as a human being. Within the conversation of transformation we are merely human beings assisting other human beings to transform their lives, to live a life that they love and to live it powerfully.

Have You Heard of Underground Hypnosis? Banned Stealth Hypnosis Techniques

(PRWEB) December 21, 2005

A curious email dropped onto my virtual doormat, forced out from my already overflowing inbox by thousands of Viagra offers. It was from a good friend of mine and had the most interesting subject line I have ever seen,”Have you heard of Underground Hypnosis…Banned Stealth Hypnosis Techniques.” It was for a product that had just been launched. He told me I just had to check this out.

My friend knows of my interest in hypnosis, magic and the works of Derren Brown et al.

But what was particular about this was that it was a full on hypnosis course, not revealing the tired old tricks like getting someone to cluck like a chicken or doing the lambada when they hear Beethoven’s 9th, but using little known techniques, actually what they call “underground” stuff for getting exactly what you want in life, work, relationships you name it.

Needless to say I decided to take the bait and find out what it was all about. With a money back guarantee I had nothing to loose. Even better when I down loaded the whole course while I made a cup of tea.

A quick look over my course materials told me it was going to be a long and very exciting night as I found myself confronted with 7 CD’s of Audio and 25 Books.

I have to tell you this was like digging for gold and there was plenty of it. The reality was that anyone with a really basic knowledge of communication can hypnotize anyone in minutes.

Have your worst enemy eating out of your hand by applying the sinister “Black Mirror Operation” and the “No Cleaver technique.” This means that you can hypnotize someone during normal conversation, even make them believe that it is fundamentally wrong to disagree with you. And get this, they won’t even realize they have been put in a trance.

Combine these two techniques with the “Iron Man Technique” and your life will literally be transformed.

If this stuff isn’t illegal then it damn well should be.

By the way! Don’t think it hadn’t occurred to me how I could use these “Underground” techniques to improve my financial situation. So I was knocked clean out of my boots when I heard about hypnotizing by Email. If only the top marketers knew about this one.

I was suddenly congratulating myself for owning hours and hours of the most sought after information ever to flood the hypnosis underworld.

I’ve seen most every kind of product out there on hypnosis and it’s easy to pass them by, after all they all amount to the same old tricks but differently packaged.

I believe this one is different. The Underground Hypnosis Course definitely gets my vote and I challenge anyone to beat it.

I won’t wait up.

Further information is available from a web site they have at http://www.hbtech.co.uk

New Reality Show for V-Day: Hitch Meets Blind Date

Yonkers, NY (PRWEB) January 14, 2006

Three pick up artists (PUA’s), all of whom belong to a real-life underground society of men, declare they can turn any socially stunted geek into a Don Juan in one night. They proceed to demonstrate on beautiful, but unwitting women, who have no idea they are surrounded by hidden surveillance cameras. By personally taking him into the dating field – a bar typically – they show for the first time in reality television, how a pick up really goes down within in the first three minutes. Think of it as the movie “Hitch”, but in real life.

Within each half hour episode, thematic lessons educate both audience and student, in a classroom setting by employing such seemingly unrelated sciences as hypnosis, sociology, sales, and of course, seduction. Since this a comedic reality program, each class has the overall feel of a skit, relying on such aids as silly props, cartoon graphics, and macho rhetoric (i.e. “any man can get into her pants but only one man can own her mind”). After being schooled, the student is then taken “in the field” to sink or swim.

As the audience eaves drops on the student’s cold approaches in a bar or on the street, they learn about proper (or improper) body language, getting under a girl’s “bitch shield” and how to smoothly escalate to the score, which is a number close or a kiss close. The best comedy comes from women’s varied reactions to the creative and hysterical things the guys come up with on the fly, not to mention whether they succeed or go down in flames. In this case, truth is better than fiction. Meanwhile, graphical commentary highlights funny or instructional moments as they happen. For example, during flirty conversation thought-bubbles appear to denote subtext, malicious or romantic. This is the meat of the program in which the PUAs sometimes stop the action and even use “madden” style drawing to show mistakes, or brilliance.

After leaving the battlefield, the 3 masters offer the student a final analysis of his performance, based on his improvements and what he still needs to work on. As an ending or even credit window, the PUA masters might take letters and not just answer questions, but show examples on video. Men will watch to “score chics” and to empathize with the triumph and failures of the student. Women will watch out of voyeuristic curiosity to learn what men think and to see a show that promises to definitively answer the age-old question: What do women want?

Swetha, the owner of MysticBoard.com, says, “Just bringing the name on my lips makes me smile and wonder where I would be today if it hadn’t been for this wonderful community. Members have always been the heart and soul. Believe me, the journey from Sunsigns.org to MysticBoard.com hasn’t been an easy one. And though Mystic Board has come a long way its isn’t anywhere near the finishing line just yet and a lot of activities have been planned for the future too.”

Started by Swetha Lodha, this board was nothing more than a personal hobby which soon became known for its friendly and open environment. Swetha started this online discussion forum with the aim that people from different walks of life could come together to share their happiness and sorrows. She still cannot believe that within two years the forum has become such a major sought after mystic forum on the Internet.

Membership to MysticBoard.com, which includes unlimited participation in hundreds of discussions, is totally free. Moreover, the existing members can refer their friends to join as members. Also, they can opt to have their own personal blogs where they can post their thoughts to share with others.

Swetha says, “Today the forum has become ‘the’ online meeting place for all those who are interested in esoteric conversations. I do not have words to express my heartfelt appreciation to its members’ for making Mystic Board such a special place.” She adds, “I believe that the next 2 years will prove to be even more fascinating.”

Veterans with PTSD Update: It’s Time For Real Simple Solutions To Help Support Veteran Families Coping with PTSD

Punta Gorda, FL (PRWEB) February 11, 2009

You needn’t look far for information on PTSD. The question Lori Olson of Update Small Business asks is this: are you really getting the full story? And if the mainstream media provides any clues, the answer is no. The average person may hear about the PTSD problem on the news but then it simply goes away; while it is shattering the lives of millions of people on a daily basis.

“I believe that Veteran Families are our unsung heroes” says Lori Olson, founder of Update Small Business. She is passionate about encouraging all citizens to pay respect to our veterans and their families by taking an extra step to be a good neighbor, “It’s time we recognized that we all have a part to play in supporting these heroes”.

In order to support Veterans and their families, Update Small Business has rendered their hypnosis CDs into a self help podcast that uses guided imagery and metaphors to support veteran families let go of grief, loss, guilt and anger. It follows the conversational hypnosis model of the legendary Dr. Milton Erickson and is now available as a free podcast on http://updatesmallbusiness.com

The CD version was distributed to mental health professionals around the country and has gotten thumbs up reviews. The hypnotic conversation that you will hear is designed to speak to the subconscious mind, so there is nothing to do but get comfortable, close your eyes and listen. The more you listen, the more you will benefit.

Why is this needed?

The sad news is that at least 35% of our returning combat troops and their families will have to cope with PTSD. “Are we going to let them handle it alone?” Olson asks.

Studies have shown that families who are more successful in achieving balance are better able to help mitigate the PTSD symptoms for the veteran. Caregivers who achieve balance are less likely to experience the debilitating symptoms of secondary PTSD.

Research shows that PTSD has negative effects on intimate as well as other family relationships*
Combat veterans experience a high rate of marital instability – much more severe than veterans without PTSD*
Vietnam veterans with PTSD are 3 -6 times as likely to divorce as non-PTSD veterans and are three times as likely to experience multiple divorces*
Partners of patients with PTSD show*:
Lower overall dissatisfaction with the relationship and are quite distressed
More caregiver burden
Poorer psychological adjustment
Veterans diagnosed with PTSD, compared to those without PTSD, are more likely to be violent with partners and children, with rates as high as 63% for some type of physical violence in the past year.***
Partners of Vietnam veterans with PTSD reported markedly reduced satisfaction in their lives and greater demoralization compared to partners of Vietnam veterans not diagnosed with PTSD. ***
These family members end up shouldering a great and lifelong burden as home and institutional caregivers, giving up or severely restricting their own employment, education and social interactions that are taken for granted in the normal course of life. Furthermore, family caregivers often suffer severe financial and personal hardships as a consequence providing care to a severely disabled veteran. Yet, in their absence an even greater burden of direct care would fall on DoD and VA, at significantly higher financial cost to the government and a reduced quality of life for severely wounded war veterans.**
The U.S. government owes its highest obligation to those who are put in harm’s way and become severely disabled as a consequence of that service. As a matter of equity and fairness, immediate family members of severely injured combat veterans should be afforded generous relief, assistance and care for the duration of the lives of veterans injured in military service to our nation. ***

“I received your CD and listened to it. As the mother of an OIF veteran with PTSD AND a Licensed Professional Counselor who uses guided imagery in my therapeutic framework, I was very pleased with it”.

~ Cynde Collins – Clark Founder of Veterans Families United

This podcast also greatly benefits caregivers who are coping with the emotional burdens that accompany caring for a loved one with dementia, Alzheimers disease and other traumas. It is simple and can be highly effective when listened to repeatedly.

Update Small Business invites you to participate in supporting our Veterans by telling Veterans, Veteran family members and caregivers about the free podcast. In addition to this Update Small Business offers significant discounts off their extremely competitive pricing to Veteran business entrepreneurs who need to add SEO, SEM, social media optimization, PPC management, CRM, or web development services to their small business resources..

8,000 Professionals Pay Tribute to the Masters at Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference at Anaheim Convention Center

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) November 17, 2005

8,000 Professionals Pay Tribute to the Masters at the World’s Largest Psychotherapy Conference: The Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference at Anaheim Convention Center The Milton H. Erickson Foundation Hosts International Conference on Psychotherapy.

Anaheim, CA (November 16, 2005) – - A meeting of the best minds will take place as 8,000 professionals in the field of psychotherapy gather at the landmark Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference V at the Anaheim Convention Center on December 7-11, 2005. Held only once every five years and open only to degreed professionals, the Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference is regarded as the largest and most comprehensive convention dedicated to the field. This year, the Conference will draw participants from more than 50 nations (including 100 delegates from China and more than 170 delegates from Australia) and engage more than 40 of psychotherapy’s leading experts as its faculty.

“A Tribute to the Masters” is the theme of Evolution of Psychotherapy V and judging from its faculty, it is a fitting premise. The Conference will feature more than 30 different workshops presented by such renowned authorities as Irvin D. Yalom, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine; John Gottman, Ph.D., the world’s leading researcher on couples therapy; and Albert Ellis, Ph.D., originator of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), to name a few.

Other Conference highlights include State of the Art addresses, point/counterpoint sessions, clinical demonstrations, topical panels, conversation hours, book signings and a pre-conference event on December 6, 2005. All Conference events have been carefully designed to maximize the interaction between the conference faculty and the participants.

“This Conference provides a forum for the industry’s pioneers to exchange ideas, share new findings with other practitioners and even engage in debate over differing opinions,” noted Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph.D., Director of The Milton H. Erickson Foundation, which has sponsored the Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference since its inception in 1985. The Milton H. Erickson Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and advance the contributions of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. to the health sciences. It is based in Phoenix, Arizona and has over 120 institutes worldwide. Dr. Erickson is best known for influencing the field of psychotherapy by legitimizing clinical hypnosis.

Dr. Zeig added, “The faculty are the originators from whom media and psychologists synthesize their work. These are the modern-day Freuds whose contributions have been influential to the public as well as to professionals.” For conference program and information, visit http:///http://www.evolutionofpsychotherapy.com.
